tl;dr

Stamps Backpackers is our sister hostel in Chiang Mai, a social hostel that opened in 2016, just outside the Old City and about five minutes’ walk from Tha Phae Gate. If you like how Nolo Hub Pai runs, the atmosphere and the way it’s set up, Stamps is a similar style, and its minivan to Pai picks you up at the door.

Nights at Stamps

The bar is the heart of Stamps, with something on every night, and it’s the easiest place in the hostel to meet people. Join in with a beer, a soda or just a smile—there’s no pressure to drink. At 10:30pm the bar closes and the group heads out together, so the hostel goes quiet for anyone who wants to sleep. It suits solo travellers and small groups who want social evenings and a proper night’s sleep.

The rooms

Every dorm is mixed. The air-conditioned dorms have enclosed pods, each with its own table, a large locker, power sockets and a reading light. The five-bed Superior gives you more space and fewer roommates, and the six-bed Deluxe has pods with walls and a curtain. The air-con runs from 6pm to 11am.

The two eight-bed fan dorms are the budget option and the most social rooms. Each bunk is semi-private, with a curtain, its own locker, a socket and a reading light, and the ceiling fans run all day.

Where it is

Stamps is on Chaiyapoom Road Soi 1, just outside the northeast side of the Old City, on the road along the east moat. Tha Phae Gate is about five minutes’ walk away, and the Sunday Walking Street and the night markets are a few minutes from the door. The tour desk books day trips around Chiang Mai, the Sticky Waterfall among them.

Why we recommend Stamps

We’re sister hostels: if you like how Nolo Hub Pai runs, we recommend Stamps, because it’s run in a similar style. Most of Stamps’ guests go on to Pai after Chiang Mai, and Nolo Hub Pai is where Stamps sends them.

Hostelworld’s Hoscars named Stamps Best Social Hostel in Asia and Best Medium Hostel in Asia in both 2024 and 2025, and Country Winner for Thailand in 2025 (2024, 2025).
